Description

PAVIA - Lombardia - Italy Yesterday afternoon I was at Pavia for a short and swift trip.. I did some shots on the river Ticino and in the zone of the town in the environs of the river.. The Old bridge(covered Bridge) on the Ticino river is a symbol of Pavia. Already in Roman period, in the ancient town of Ticinum, it was present a first bridge that connected the two shores of the river to the height of the modern Covered Bridge. Subsequently they had been added a portal of entrance from the part of the Borgo Ticino (XVI century), a chapel to the center of the bridge (XVIII century) and finally also a portal of entrance from the part of the historical center (XIX century). The bombardments aside of the forces allied, during the second world war, in the September 1944, gave back seriously damaged and useless the ancient fourteenth-century bridge. In 1949 it is begun the construction of the new bridge, that was inaugurated in 1951. On the portal from the part of the town an epigrafe cites: "On the ancient passage of the ceruleo Ticino, to image of the ancient Covered Bridge, demolished from the rage of the war, the Italian Republic to rebuild". The present bridge was built about 30 downstream meters of the precedent, and is wider and higher with respect to the ancient . The arches are wider and inferior in number: five to the place of seven. Some rubble of the ancient bridge I am still visible in the waters of the river; is remained also the base of the portal partially planted on the left shore. The Coverd Bridge , was rebuilt after the Second World War. It is an almost identical copy of the earlier one from the 14th century (remains of the old bridge can still be seen on both river-banks, a little upstream). Thank you for your agreeable visit and for your very appreciated and precious comments! Thanks to all for your precious and very appreciated support! Thanks for your visits to all my photos previous!I hope you will enjoy this my photo!I wish to all a wonderful day !!THANK YOU to all!! A big kiss and a big hug to all with love!!
