Description
The Astroia-Megler Bridge spans the mouth of the Columbia River between Oregon and Washington States, and is 4.1 miles long making it the longest continuous span in the world. Construction of the bridge was completed on August 27th, 1966. The main span is 1,232 feet (4,041,09 meters) and rises to 200 feet (61 meters) at it's highest point, making it possible for ocean going vessels to pass under. First called the "Bridge To Nowhere" it connects the highway between Mexico and Canada along the coastline and today carries more than 2 million vehicles across the Columbia River.

Ah, now I know where this is! I couldn't quite recognize it from your image yesterday. I drove through Astoria, (a beautiful town!!) and I was going south and thought I was very lucky not to have to drive over it. It was an amazing sight and this is a great photo of the bridge. :)

Now that's impressive! Beautiful capture and POV of this engineering marvel. Thank you for the details and statistical information; it does put things into perspective. Incidentally, it kind of reminds me of my childhood days when I built things with my erector set.

Terrific shot of this amazing bridge! I've been over it many times on the way to some family property on the Washington coast. You must have tremendous luck to have found a blue-sky day in Astoria to snap this picture.
