In the ancient days, before Sharonne came to Shabrund, there was an alliance of the old kingdom of the Dwarves and the Sylvisan elves of Shallymyra. It was in those days, long before the dark times of Mantari, when the Cantellzanian elf Witch, Lujienne, came to the high mountains seeking a passage into the earth, to seek the legendary underworld and the mythological dark elves that dwelt there. She hired a band of brave and strong warriors to aid her in her quest, though none of them would know what her secret was, nor what vile plot she had for them all. The band was joined by a rogue, an elven woman who had traveled the far reaches of the northlands and in a battle with a Chromium Dragon, had lost most of her hearing.

A deaf thief is worth little, but she had ways of compensating. Her uncle, a mage with ties to the ancient Dwarven smiths, made for her a sword to help her on her journeys. Since she could not tell how much noise she was making, he ensorcelled the blade to cover her sounds, and its own. The dwarves wished to make it of the most sturdy adamant, but her uncle had found another metal, a blue-black metal, and had begun to experiment with it. It was similar to adamant, but much lighter. However, all the pieces he found became brittle and soon crumbled when exposed to sunlight. The existence of this metal was very interesting to Lujienne, for she had a theory that it came from the mythological dark elves. Of course, she wasn't telling any of her fellow Sylvisan that secret. She helped the girl's uncle combine the two steels, and make a powerful metal that was lighter than Dwarven adamant, but not photoreactive as the dark metal was. The dwarves that helped forge the blade named it Olistwunde, "silent steel" in their ancient tongue.

In the long, dark adventure that ensued, all the dwarves and elves employed by the witch died. Only she returned from beneath the earth, holding some dark secret, and telling tales of finding the legendary lost Drovik, a people she called Drow. In the end, she was hunted down and killed by her own people for unspeakable crimes. The sword, Olistwunde, was lost, never returning from the place Lujienne called the UnderDark.

In time, allies of House Belabra of the Splinter Kingdom came to Maerymydra. They uncovered the cursed Dead City and plundered its treasures, sending many back to the coffers and vaults of the ruling house of the Western UnderDark. But they too met a dark fate. Olistwunde became the prized possession of the assassins of House Belabra. And in the final battles against Tarantella Belabra, last of her line, her chief assassin was slain. Olistwunde came to the SGL.

And now,... now it is on its way back to Maerymydra where it was lost for so many centuries.
