Description
OK, I am off that Frenchman's list of things 'wot aint comets n'est pas' and am on a list compiled by a very excentic Englishman called Patrick Caldwell-Moore (of Sky At Night fame).
This is a wonderful edge on spiral galaxy. Some of you may recognize it from the opening and closing credits of an old Television program called the Outer Limits. It is 10 million light years away (thats a mind boggling distance).
Taken with a Philips ToUcam webcam on an 8 inch reflecting telescope. 50 x 120 sec exposures stacked and averaged in AIP4WIN and post processed in PaintShop Pro X.

What, no comments yet? What is amazing is your ability to capture these spectacular image. I do recognize this from the Outer Limits and images I have seen on APoD and elsewhere. Really top notch work. Hey, did you catch that NOVA special on the Monster of the Milky Way? Great stuff...

Great shot! I know how hard it is to get quality astro-pictures from a relatively small scope. (Or, perhaps, I should just say, I was extremely pathetic at it years and years ago.) Nice picture!
