Description

Unfortunately the least succesful element in this render was what initialy lead to the scene: An attempt to make a curvy road. The forest itself is IMHO the best I've made so far. Well, fortunately the picture isn't perfect, so I still have all the reasons to experiment and get better :) A little more "tech-stuff", since this image required quite a bit of "pre-work": The foreground terrain is built in Photoshop with 1) A hand-drawn texture with the road and the surroundings painted using various brushes and techniques, as one large "image map", some 4000x4000 pixels, and to be used with the "parametric" mapping mode in Vue. 2) The terrain profile was painted as a B/W image based on the texture image, and 3) Bumps and a reflection function (for the puddles in the roadside) were built based on the basic image map. In Vue, I then made several terrain "layers" based on the "master terrain" with different clipping etc. to control the growth of the ecosystem vegetation. That's how I do it - but with the ability in Vue 6 Infinte to actually paint the vegetations, some of you may not find this interesting at all :) Vue 5 Infinite render, some 4.5 hrs. in "Superior" with global ambience. Trees made in Onyxtree, with my own textures. The groundcover is a combination of Bantam3D grass objects and some plant species made in the Vue plant editor. The car is freestuff from Planit3D - thanks a lot. Hope you like this. I'll probably make some more of these "image-map" road scenes, having learnt from the "perceptual mistakes" in this first experiment. Thanks in advance for any comments etc. you may leave - they are very much appreciated. Have a nice day - Lars

Thanks for the comments so far - I really appreciate them. But you don't have to comment on the road - I know it's too small etc. Just read my comments above :)

Excellent work, the forest is very believable! The background ambience was worth the wait. :-) My only suggestions (if it were my work) would be to burn-in a little bit of shadow under the vehicle and perhaps tint the car windows a touch. Other than that I'd leave it all the way it is. Well done!

A superb effort and an excellent idea, the road is a little small but the thinking behind it is fantastic and more importantly it does look like a road in the wilderness and the ecosystem looks fantastic.

I think the entire image is magnificent!!! How you achieved the curved road is beautifully explained and gives the scene it's beautiful focus. I love it!!! Bravo! Headed into my favs.

Gorgeous forest! And I don't think the road is as bad as you say. I bet if you took out the brand-new looking paint lines, it would make a huge difference. Also, I love the puddle and the bits of overgrowth onto the road. :-)

Wow. I still have so much more to learn with Vue. This is awesome and we can just say the forest is overtaking the road, Mother Nature's Revenge and all that. :P
