Description

Mt.Scott, in the Wichita Mtns, in Native American mythology is where the last wild herd of buffalo disappeared into the base of the mountain. When the Wildlife Refuge was formed in the years following the formation of Yellowstone Ntl. Park, the buffalo were reintroduced and have thrived ever since. They are wild animals and people are cautioned to treat them as such... they will charge if intimidated. The herds move freely through all areas of the park. As a child I found myself stranded on a round concrete picnic table (couldn't make it to the car!) with a huge bull within reach (Did I count coup on him? No, I didn't...perfectly still I was...I figure he let me live because I respected his honor and didn't touch him.) Since then I have always had a special affinity for my Buffalo Brothers. Thank you for viewing~ Deb :)

lol SoulTaker...kinda looks like it, huh? That is a total profile shot, with the horn also straight-on. I would have liked better light and resolution but he was laying perfectly, had to take the shot from afar and zoom in, this is a crop from a larger view. :)

A beautiful, regal beast. My father who died when I was twelve was a Grand Primo, of the Featherstall branch of the R.A.O.B. known as the Buffs. The full title should read, Royal Antiluvion Order of Buffalo's, My mother used to call them the ragged arse old buggers, any excuse for a booze up. I still have some of his regallia somewhere. Excellent capture and narrative Deb, I would love to have been there with you. Fantastic work. Bravo!!!!!
