Description

This is another photo I took this summer but didn't post until I'd screwed around with it enough. Still doesn't look that great but I thought the diagonals made it interesting enough to post. It's a large frog from the pond that Mom and I took to calling "Pale Biggy", since there were so many other "Biggies" in the area. As an aside, here's something I'd like to get off my chest. I've seen some really nasty troll comments in other galleries recently, calling certain images "not art". Well, to people who have said such things, FUCK OFF. Saying something's crap is fine but "not art"? I don't care if you're an artist yourself, a critic, a teacher or the fucking president of the united states, NOBODY has the right to define what is or is not art. That's an individual opinion that you do not force on someone else. Keep your God complexes to yourselves. Thank you for your comments on the last "summer revisited". Although I disagree with your criticism (I like the way it's cropped just fine), I appreciate your honesty and willingness to help, I really do. Honesty and constructive crit are almost impossible to find on this site -- most people either don't have the balls to say anything even slightly negative or they go full-on troll. I'm greatful to you for not doing either. Aside from the spineless bastards who leave comments like "too little, too late" or "this is not art", this is a lovely community, and hopefully will remain so. See you again soon. EDIT: Just to clarify, the above rant was in reference to a netseawolf image and not one of mine.

The froggies are back! :) I like this one...the blurred foreground leaf adds depth and works for the composition.

Yup - that's a good one. Great DOF, Colors and detail. Though it's not art. Art is - when you have no clue of what it is, means or represents - and you need something to say about it. This clearly is a frog - hence no art! ;)

A super shot. Hasn't the frog got a lot of colouring and texture. Great that you posted this as there is no way I could take a picture of a frog now as there are none near here and I love frogs.

I agree...all 'art' is in the eye of the beholder, but there is also an 'art' to expressing one's self.I personally find the use of expletives the least effective way of getting one's point across,as it shows a lack of intelligence and linguistic skills...But that's just me. Carry on...lol.

I totally agree with what you said. I know that not everyone is going to like what I photograph and may not consider anything as being 'art', but I shoot it anyway... for myself. The only thing that really matters honey is.... do you like it? Whatever it is that caught your eye in the first place made you want to photograph it. So in the end dear, do it for yourself. I know it's a wonderful thing to have others look at your photographs and see the same things that you have, but not everyone will. I have to admit that I would be placed on the defensive if someone 'attacked' me in the same manner. But keep your chin up.... there are plenty of us in here that absolutely L O V E frogs. It can be incredibly tough to photograph them too. You did a fantastic job of catching this bull frog in it's natural setting. ;-)

This IS art, ACS, and I came upon it randomly and like many of your images, here and at DA, I stopped and stared...your eye is so sensitive to shape and texture: The circles are wonderfully mirrored in the frog and the water (in the frog's eyes, the splashes in the water, etc.), but you've also captured the wonderful wet reflections on both the frog's skin and the water as well. Everything resonates with everything else here. And like other of your closeups, it's alive with reflections and textures and lights of various kinds; and here you've captured an almost neon-blue reflection all over the place which fills the shot with a an almost other-worldly sheen. This shot is a symphony of visual bursts and all kinds of blends, and shows your explosive eye. Quite beautiful. (and btw, I did extensive graduate work in "what is art" and there are as many answers to that question as there are people, and when someone uses it to trash a work of art, it's just because it's a high-sounding trump cardl. Your work is art, and I don't think anyone who sees it would even pose the question for a minute. It's a surprise that your shots don't get more attention!)
