Cycads getting artsy by busi2ness
Open full image in new tabDescription
This photo was taken of the cones of the Cycads, a South African species which is endangered. Cycads could easily be listed as one of the Big 5Â in the "primitive" or fossil plant kingdom.
I found the converging straight lines and curving repetitive shapes quite fascinating - nature playing with art?
Thank you for visits and kind comments to a previous upload which did well in 2006:

WOW!!! What a lovely couple! Shots and cones! lol. Excellently presented too. I'm sure you had a great time in Tzaneen - was it as hot as Tzaneen can get this time of year? Have a wonderful eve, Oom! 8;o)

Lovely capture Piet! Yes, the converging leaves focuses on those bright cones and the contrast between the green leaves and orange cones is amazing. These plants grow very slowly I believe. Apparently it grows something like a cm a year - I may stand corrected. Anyway, I have never seen a cone this big and colourful. Stunning!

Woah - brilliant images and equally luscious colors. Great detail, too! It doesn't have to be a big animal - sometimes plants are as amazing as them. Compared to that is what we call art - well - not quite up to it... Great Work, Piet.

Great captures of the Cycads, which I thought at first were some kind of robot warriors from Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica. The cones are magnificent in texture as are the tree/plant fronds. Well done!

they are of stunning beauty and thanks for the link. I learned something today, not saying I will remember next week--but that is how it goes

Nature has a way of playing with geometry in grand displays that we feeble mortals could never dream up. Your eye for the art here is absolutely splendid. :-)

I have a few Cycads (sago palm) in my yard, but not this beautiful variety. Beautiful shots that make a fantastic collage!
