Description

I know you have all seen a cosmos flower - whatever your regional name may be - but these are different. I stumbled upon these "hybrids" at Magoebaskloof ("kloof" = ravine) Hotel in South Africa. Note how the pink was progressively introduced to the border of the white petals and I tried to illustrate this from left to right until the petals are almost red and just a hint of the white remains. May these flowers brighten up your day.

I want to dedicate this to PJ and Di for their love of flowers - well I had to because I made a comment about "boring flowers" and hereby a peace offering, LOL!

Thank you for all your visits and comments, especially Knersis with his informative comment about Cycads:

Great collage, even though I prefer single picture postings because the detail and grandeur can then be really appreciated.

Well presented Piet! You must have had loads of fun looking and photographing the different cosmos. I have never seen these hybrids before. I have only seen the white, pink and red (scarce) ones, but not these vignetted hybrids. I always find it strange that they grow abundantly right next to the roads. I must admit that the forth one in your sequence is strickingly beautiful! Thanks for sharing this!

Sir, this is so lovely. I love Cosmos and its one of the flowers that never seems to do well for me! Honestly. Wild? Grows Wild? Maybe that's my problem... I pamper my flowers to DEATH. LOL. I love the comparison and progression in breeding. Just stellar. Thank you, Piet, for your kind thoughts. You have shown us and yourself that flower shots are not boring unless the photographer is. It always shows in a shot if the shooter's heart is in it or not.

These are simply lovely, Piet! I've grown cosmos here, but no changes like this occurred so I guess I had the wrong variety, LOL! I love how you have shown the color progression; as with your animal shots you have a way of making the viewer feel like they're right there watching!

It is quite a lovely little jewel and the progression of the photos is fascinating as well. I'm sure whatever offense may have been given, this peace offering was sure to melt away. :-) Excellent work.

Great progression of colors from nearly white to nearly red. Used to see these everywhere (as a weed)when I was a child, but rarely see them any more. These brought back many precious memories for me.
