Description

This White Rhino (Ceratotherium simum) is one of the giant bulls roaming where I live. The word "white" for Rhino is actually not correct but rather "wide" because its real name was from the Dutch "wijd bek renoster", i.e. "wide mouthed rhinoceros". You can clearly see its square lip/mouth surface which enables it to graze instead browsing leaves like its cousin, the Black Rhino.
This picture was taken on the farm Buisfontein and the town I live in can be seen to the left and some distance past the foot of the hill - small town, you have to look close, lol.

Wow - what a big one! Excellent POV. I think this would have been a very blurred shot had it been a Black Rhino. LOL. Stunning capture - makes me want to paint a picture of it!

That is one weird looking dude, primarily because of that bizarre mouth, or chin! Now that I look at it further, the chin projects the effect of a giant mustache. Great sepia color effect in the capture.

Without a doubt, this is the ugliest animal on earth! It must've been one of God's earliest creations. Lucky for mankind, most animals (large or small) look "prettier" than this poor beast so HIS work improved as His creations progressed. This is one I wouldn't be at all tempted to "pet" if it roamed across my back yard. Thank you for your wonderful pictures. You give us all a great education with your photos and descriptive words. Keep 'em commin'!!

A truly magnificent animal. So prehistoric yet so simple and adaptive. Rhinos have always been fascinating creature to me. This one is very nicely photographed to show off its best features. Great photo!

Sjoe! Hy's werklik pragtig Oom Piet!

An impressive and massive creature. It is a joy to see it through the eye of your camera. I'm sure it is even more magnificent in person (from a safe distance, I'm sure). :-)

My immediate thinking was; how well is a little safari truck going to hold up against one of these guys? He looks like he's built to take on anybody who wants to rumble! What a beast, perfect capture too!!
