Description

This White Rhino (Ceratotherium simum) is one of the giant bulls roaming where I live. The word "white" for Rhino is actually not correct but rather "wide" because its real name was from the Dutch "wijd bek renoster", i.e. "wide mouthed rhinoceros". You can clearly see its square lip/mouth surface which enables it to graze instead browsing leaves like its cousin, the Black Rhino.
This picture was taken on the farm Buisfontein and the town I live in can be seen to the left and some distance past the foot of the hill - small town, you have to look close, lol.

I'm trying to read his look, did he come running towards you seconds after you took the shot, or just kept on with his business? :D. Just messing, nice shot, like the warm colors.

My but he is big... but he looks friendly enough. Love his ears! Is there some water nearby...he looks like he is covered in mud. Pat can see a lion? Yikes, Pat can't see ten inches in front of her but she can see a lion?!!!!

LOL..Jan-a-leeeeeen...I did see a lion or what I thought was a lion turns out it wasn't...however...it seems to have cloned off to another area of the jungle...hehe...beautiful photograph of a not so beautiful beast...and..back to you Janalene.. I do take offence to the comment of not being able to see ten inches in front of me...take off those glasses if you dare and tell us all how many mm's you can see...hmmmmmmmmmm ;)...ahhh...silence...as I thought. p.s. Piet...you are indeed a very lucky individual to have such beauty surrounding you. Thankyou for sharing your part of the world.

Isn't it ironic that Nature made such a formidible beast, a walking Sherman tank, and then make him nearsighted. Lennox Lewis with trifocals..lol althought Lennox is known as "The Lion"... wonderful shot Piet.. lee
