Description
This was also designed for operation from aircraft carriers post WW2 and filled a similar role to yesterdays Skyraider. The stripes were added for recognition in the Korean War. Around thirty are still airworthy and some are used for air racing at Reno annually.

I saw one of these in the Mojave Air Races the first year they held them. I was intrigued by the sleeve-valve story. My father talks about a neighbor that had a Willys-Knight with the same sleeve valves. He says the starter was so quiet you could hardly hear it. This one even still has it's tail hook.

You continue to do a fine job of presenting these old war birds. Thanks for the point of view..that must be exiting in itself. Fine shot as was the previous one.
