Description

Big was my surprise when I stumbled on something I did now know existed in South Africa outside the zoos. At first I thought I had too much to drink the previous night. Thanks to Klaus (tarantula-man) who helped me put a name to this "fellow", yes, it is apparently a Fallow Deer or Dama Dama.
These creatures have the most amazing long eyelashes.
Thank you for visits and comments to the "Vierkleur". It was heart warming to realize so many people cared for cultures elsewhere:

Hallo Piet. a very nice capture van een Damhert (=dutch, maybe also Afrikaans, for Dama Dama deers!!) Understood there is a small number of them in South Africa. In the "Double Dutch" Wildernes, the dunes close to where I live, we have a growing number of these beautiful animals. See my posting 26th of December 2005!! Have a nice evening Henk

Utterly magnificent capture and composition, Piet! A fallow fellow, indeed! I love those antlers and the seemingly serene eyes. The fallow stands out well against the blurred background, of which I should concentrate more on improving in many of my shots.

Yeah yeah I captured it, but will show it off in my Mabalingwe series, as soon as my lions are complete. Oom Piet, this is an outstanding capture! The clarity and detail is quite amazing! That's really a brilliant portrait Piet ! I've never seen this sort of Deer before, he's impressive and so elegant. A wonderful animal. I'm surprised as you to see one in South Africa. But there are Deers on each continent, and they are all differents. I'm always surprised by the diversity of the creatures on our little planet, it's incredible ! Nice done again my friend. Have a wonderful day. HUgs

Great shot - but that I think I told you already - If I wouldn't have gone back to look for something specific - I wouldn't have noticed, that I missed not one - but a couple of pages... Shame on me and Kudos for you for a great portrait!
