Description

The horse played a very significant part in our history. During the Anglo-Boer (1899-1902) war every Colonial and Boer soldier established a treasured relationship with his horse. This love of horses is very much alive even today. I want to dedicate this photo of a young lady and her horse captured at the recent "Vierkleur" celebrations to Elrika of Bloemfontein who lost her horse GoGo during this week.
I want to include the names of  artists who showed their affection towards the equines in the past: Amira, Jodie, Dawn and Kimarie.

"Have you ever ridden horses through a rainstorm?
Or led a lion through a busy street bazaar?
There are many things I'd like to turn you on to..."

When I was 6 years old, my folks started me in an equestrian class on a small horse property owned by a lady who had been a performer with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. I instantly knew I could not live without my own horse. From that first class, I began saving every penny I could - birthday money, allowance, extra chore quarters, pennies found on the sidewalk... I put everything away in a jar. We moved to Texas when I was 10 and I was able to keep a horse. I had saved $200 and we went out with a horse trader friend of the family and I came home with a real deal - an 8 year old palemino mare, a nice saddle, bridle, blanket and halter with lead all for my $200. Couldn't even get the saddle for that these days. Nugget was the best friend a 10-year old kid could have.

...if one looks closely one can see sadness in both their expressions...premonition of what lay ahead...or perhaps it is just what I imagine is there...such heartbreak for the young girl...beautiful dedication...beautiful pair.

A very touching dedi for Elrika and Gogo, and a beautiful portrait. She looks her horse in a so incredible way.... It's terrible to loose an animal, as it is for someone of our family. There are some incredible and beautiful friendships and love between men and animals, maybe more between a child and an animal.... A sincere thought for Elrika.... Hugs to both of you

Superb dedication to Elrika and GoGo. I think the kindest eye I have ever seen on a horse. That is what I judge from before I climb up in the saddle. If the eye is kind, the horse will keep you safe upon his back... I can see the love also in Elrika's eyes for GoGo. Sublime capture, Oom. My heart goes out to Elrika, such a terrible, terrible loss.... Diane.
