Description

This time I chose the Black-collared Barbet (Rooikophoutkapper) also representative of the common garden birds in central South Africa. I hope you like the red color which is not coincidental tomorrow, Feb 14th!
Thanks for you very kind response to:

What an unusual bird! its beak, of course, built for cracking hard objects. A compact bird though with the forequarters stouter than the rear. The cock of the tail is interesting as well. Very, very interesting... :-)

I like your birds very much, they are so colour full, so beautiful and, captured in an excellent way. I always like the african / dutch names!! Your yesterdays Kuifkophoutkapper was a beauty, the bird as well as the name. Looking forwards to see more of these colloured friends, appearently very comon in your area, which makes me a bit jalous (LOL) Prettige avond daar in het zuiden Henk

This is one of the most beautiful birds I have ever (never) seen. Wish I could see a bird like this perching in one of my trees. Yes, I'm jealous. Looking forward to seeing even more of your beauties soon.

I love his little whiskers and scarlet red breast. I wonder what kind of song this bird sings. Most beautiful capture.

General shape is not much different from European or American songbirds - color and the size of the beak however are dramatically different. Great capture, Piet - well done!
