Dear Jock, I'll spare you the update again!!! ;-) This is a really a cool shot of the pelican!! I've always though they wee so cool looking flying along - they remind me of the great flying boats that opened up most of the wold to air travel. Sort of brown Pan Am Clippers!!!! I always thought birds spread their wings like that to dry them!! I've watched the cormorants at Brazon Bend State Park a lot with their wings out. Of course, Brazos Bend has also got a LOT of alligators, too!!! Super photograph!!!! Love ya!!! Meredith

Cormorants do that to dry their wings. Anhingas do it while hidden in trees. I don't hink I have ever seen a pelican do this. The bayou has secrets a piling does not reveal.

Nicely captured. It's hard to get close sometimes and it's nice to see him in his environment here.

Searched to see what I could find about anhingas, cormorants (which is what I thought it might be) and pelicans. I think 'kjpweb' is right, I think it's an anhinga. Regardless of what it is, I love this photo! I love that you didn't crop it, but left it whole for us to see. But y'all gotta look at the full view .. you miss so much if you don't.

Great shot Jock! I'm not big on wanting to know the names as much as enjoying the Nature of things! :)
