Description

Shot taken last Saturday. High on West Cliff, towering above Whitby Harbour, stands this monument to Captain James Cook. A navigator and explorer. Cook discovered the Islands of Hawaii on his ship The Resolution. I think this is an appropriate view of his monument, as Cook is looking out to sea. I dedicate this work to Sharky/Errol and Punaguy/Dave. Have a wonderful day. Hugs. Diane.

In a way, its a bit sad Cooke did discover those beautiful islands... selfishly, i'm glad he did though. Wonderful photo, Di, including the view from behind. Too bad the gull couldn't get with the program and fly out towards the water... he's a camera hog, I suspect!

Marvellous shot Di, so clear and such lovely colours. Captain Cook and the seagull are perfectly captured. An interesting fact is that two junior officers who served under Captain Cook, later became very well known. One was William Bligh who was the infamous captain of the Bounty and the other was George Vancouver. Not a lot of people know that.

A very well known name in our history of Hawaii. He who looks towards the ocean loves the sea. Thank you for the dedi. Much Alohas

Jeez, what a fitting view for this great explorer! We have one statue of him on the island of Kaui. Due to some misunderstanding between his crew and the Hawaiians he was killed here on the Big Island...thank goodness I didn't live back then. Pretty shot and Mahalo's for the nice dedi here Di...Much Aloha to you!
