Description

My futuristic idol singer sits brooding in her bedroom festooned with her own images, contemplating her own future with a corporation that drains talent for all that it's worth, then shoves it out the airlock. This is a WIP, last rendered in 3ds max because so far the textures and raytracing make Poser choke. Might also appear very dark on some monitors. The original max file had to be rebuilt, and the camera angle here was lost, so later versions won't look exactly the same. The dim bedroom lighting is okay-ish, but I want to try a different setup where it's harshly lit from a big TV across the room. I'd rather do it in Poser with a light system I can understand, and with shaders. I'm currently trying different eclectic freebie furniture, and other coordinated decor in the rebuilt file. *Edit* It is meant to look like a cold, industrial space (concrete and metal walls, polished concrete floor), exactly the kind of space you would least expect to find a bedroom. A longer shot would show a bed, area rugs, various girly stuff, more furniture, etc. But all in a disturbingly cold-looking and shiny room. Sorry, should have made that clearer... *Edit 2* I should have mentioned long ago that the toonish shadows on her are because of my experimental lighting setup in 3ds max (mostly ambient rather than diffuse and specular) to avoid a 12-hour GI render. This setup takes 12 minutes to render. It does needs some tweaking.

I like the blank spaces on the wall, but would like to see more in future versions to indicate this is a bedroom. Until I read your description, I thought it was some kind of office. Love the mood and the pose. Look forward to seeing what comes next!

a slight zoom-out would show the edge of her bed, showing what room she's in. The camera is hovering above the bed. It is a fully outfitted bedroom though, another reason it made Poser choke.

Very good. You captured the moment really well. Her expression reflects just what you said. Indeed the furniture could be improved and I can't wait for the next version. One thing about the shadows: her right arm doesn't cast shadow over the arm of the chair.

Great. The shadow is perhaps a little too light. Otherwise, well done!

Dress looks super - is that dynamic or conforming? Really looks beautiful and flows well. You might think about moving the camera a little bit in any direction, just to get her out of dead center. The left hand could stand to make a little shadow onto the dress to help the viewer place where it is exactly. Really nice mood overall, and the floor reflection is very clean. Beautiful character also.

The dress is dynamic, with a shell modifier in max to give it thickness. The funny shadows are due to the mostly ambient lighting setup. I'm just not good with max lighting or rendering yet, I mostly use it to model and morph. Which is why I want to render it in Poser through some creative compositing, maybe. Duly noted about the dead center thing. I just critiqued someone about that the other day. ;)

Excellent scene. I love the composition and the pose. I have a couple of small criticims: The shadows are too bold on the figure - like they were painted on in watercolour. I don't really like the plain reflective floor since it detracts from the realism. I think you could still have some reflection in the floor but perhaps with a well varnished wooden floor. Perhaps a rug would make it feel more like a bedroom and less like an office.

Love the title. Everything in this image is crisp, which adds to the techno atmosphere you're attempting to capture. I like the POV and the placement of the character in the corner which also emphasizes the tension of her predicament. I read that you're still experimenting with furniture, but I'll add this for future reference. In this atmosphere you're trying to build the texturing of the furniture is too cozy and homey. My eye immediately went to that craft-like woven texture on the pillow which has a Native American feel that's out of place in the sterile techno world you're describing.

Hey, I was planning on doing that sort of thing once I'd gotten enough back images of my futuristic idol singer :). Great concept, nice execution. I have one (fairly minor) esthetic point to pick. You used the same hairstyle in all the images (or almost all of them.) I would imagine that a real idol would probably changer her style, and probably color as well. It's probably not worth it to go back and change the images you used in the posters etc., but you might consider tweaking the hair in the seated figure.

The atmosphere is really good and her expression does give the feeling of wondering where her life/career is going. I love the pose on the dress where as she's sitting part of her bra shows (LOL I know that happens when I sit down in a tank top :P) So very realistic on that part! My only thing is the toon-ish shadows on her arms and feet... It just doesn't seem to mesh with the rest of the image, maybe just a touch of softening along those lines... Overall, really fantastic work! :D cheers!
