Description
With this one i think that you need to see it in a darkened room otherwise the full silhouette of the tree will be virtually invisible in the detail at the lower end of the spectrum.
anyway - this was a fun little project i did when i was down south. That tree is in the middle of a field near my house, i'd seen it on a daytime walk i took a couple of days before that shot so i had the shot planned in my head before i returned on a clear night. What i didnt take into account was that the field was also used by a farmer for his cows (there is a public footpath running through this field btw). So when i get there at night all these cows are in the field and i dont think they were too happy about me being there too, i managed to take this shot before i decided it was time to leave.
I cloned myself out, as i was standing just to the right of the house, firing the flash into the tree and was lit up like a christmas tree because of it ;) It didnt work out as well as i would have liked because i think i needed a smaller tree to get all the branches sidelit.
Those of you who are Smashing Pumpkins fans will probably know about the title - those who arent, well it is the name of the second "album" within their album "Melancholy and the Infinite Sadness". I thought it was appropriate here.
Anyway - thanks for stopping by.
Enjoy!
Rich

I love trees, and this is a great capture of lighting.

Brilliant group that is. I love "Tonight", "Disarm" and alot of other songs of theirs. Theyve produced a couple of moody melodies for sure. Equally moody and brilliant is this photo. I absolutely love how you illuminated the tree trunk. That makes all the difference. If i were to suggest anything at all it wouldve been to perhaps clone out that bright star...or is it the moon even while you were at it. It almost looks like a hot pixel. Other than that i give this 10 out of 10. Great job Rich. #:o)

wonderful night shot, excellently taken :)

Excellent shot. I love the dark atmosphere and the lighting on the tree is superb however........ I'm confused (not difficult to do!!) how come you were in the shot, hence you needed to clone yourself out, but you were obviously stood in the foreground (behind the camera) taking the shot???? Or was the camera set up on timer, giving you enough time to run down to the tree with some sort of remote flash unit?? Anyway, however you did it, it's great!! xx

I think it's excellent. I'd be very happy with it. I love the mood of this piece. There's something slightly mysterious about it. It kind of reminds me of a book cover-type image. Well done, Rich and your title suits the image perfectly. (Great group, btw. ) -M :^)

...very moody night-capture, i can understand what kind of problems maybe this kind of Night-Photography bring with it. As i made my Evil-Night shot in the forrest i just run around the tree with my pocket lamb to light paint the tree at the same moment a man with a dog passes by....(-; ....very funny you can think it was between 11 pm and 12 pm o clock ....such a shame (-;

Well done the sky itself illuminates those branches the flash didn't reach. I quite liked this when I saw it in the gallery. BJ
