Description

Here's one of the images I took at Kilauea in Volcanoes National Park. It's from one of the Southwest rifts on the volcano...I'll probably upload one of those shots later this week too. I only took 550 some odd pictures while we were there after all. LOL If I'm reading my park map right, the lava flow out here was last deposited back in 1971 and this is one of the few signs of life out there even 30 years later. Just a few minor ferns getting established in the cracks here and there. It's amazing how beautiful the area is, even when desolate and devastated by the lava flows...I'm not even sure devastated is quite the right word sometimes. Before I go, I've got a question about something I'm pondering uploading. I've got some photos from the USS Arizona Memorial and there's one thing that really got to me when I saw it. I took a picture, but I'm not sure if I should upload it or not since it's got names of the crew on it. I'd be intending it as a show of respect for them, but wasn't sure if it could be taken another way perhaps as well. I've uploaded it for now to my photobucket account. If you'd like to look it over and IM me your opinion (or leave it in the comments...either way), I'd appreciate it. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i117/jsparhawk/DSC00419.jpg Thanks John (This is shrunk down some to meet file size requirements, but still uploaded as resized...click to see full version)

Very beautyfull pic John. looks fantastic. Your foto at Photobucket is very touching. It hurts me every time when i see such a memorial. The war is something horrible. Very sad...

Educational and aesthetically pleasing photo; It is always interesting to see how plantlife recovers seemingly desolate terrain. Regarding the posting of the memorial with names... tough call- the names given are not full with first and middle, so I don't see any privacy issues there- and really, it is in a public accessable place- all you are doing is extending the view to thousands that are not physically there. I dont think there would be any potential political issue, and if there were, screw it- the memorial exists, people can see it, and its out for public viewing.

This little plant amaze me, there is really nothing it could settle in and it is growing just through the stone!!! I wish a lot of people had such a strong will or instinkt to live!!! Marvelous captured, John, thanks for sharing!! Hugs Ute

Interesting that these plants are finally perking up. I can only speak for myself that I know if you would put up the memorial image that it would give me a chance to reflect on the losses. I would like to see it so going to your bucket right now....Shannon ;}
