Description

I been wishing to photo some of the Marshes of south Louisiana. Here I find some dead trees.most the time you see nothing but some water and the tall thick grass reefs. Salt water I think killed these trees. I know it Earth Day today. I put my two cent into it. Louisana is lossing land every year. I do not trust the figures I saw for if you do the math and I not that good in math but I do know if we lossing land like they say we are from the time I was born to now Louisiana would not be here; it be wash away into the Gulf. Why are we lossing land? Because the states above us built levels to keep the Mississippi in the channel. That river used to flood and wash the dirt down and give it to Louisiana. Now not too much dirt is comeing down so we lossing land. We change nature to keep land where it is and so Louisisana is lossing. WE change nature too so those states can keep they land. Plus some Earth day person suited the Army Cord of Engineers from building a flood gate somewhere close to New Orleans because it would effect the wild life. The Army wish to put it there to stop a flood from the Gulf in case a storm comes up with one. That person won the suit and no gate was builted. Mother Nature did it thing and killed the wild life there and flooded a lot of land around New Orleans about a year ago. And that person that won the law suit had moved on a long time ago. Hope he know what he did for Mother Earth. I read a lot of what man did and why he did it. What the Romans did and other people in the past did to change nature. Just for his own selfness ways he did this most the time. Guess you know I do not believe in Globle warming too. It just so the goverments can tax you on what ever. Like a country in EU have to pay a tax of 20 EU to Bar B Que in they backyard; and the goverment is going to fly over the house in helicopters to check the people who did not pay. lol now they wasteing a lot of gasoline and puting more stuff in the air that a bar b que can with that way of checking on things. It comeing to your country too so watch out. I sorry I outrage here but to me Earth day is how we can destory the land and take money from the people too And have people belive it for they good. If I wrong; sorry thanks for looking and reading; comments too and if you mad at me hey we all get mad at times; So we even.

Thought provoking image. Things are definately hotting up here but most scientists seem to be split between the cause being a link with man made CO2 or could it just be a natural event (natural climate change) related to sun activity. Not sure what to believe.

Jocko, very nice marsh photograph! Your writeup on Earthday is sure to make folks thiunk and fell and maybe be a little kinder to the Earth, now if only governments would do the same, be kind to the Earth and to the people! If only there was enough natural marshland between New Orleans and the ocean, hurricane storm surges would be weakened greatly before they got there and do much less damage. As my daughter reminds me, "Nature bats last."

Nature has its own way off achieving balance. If you do one thing,it always affects something else.

Earth changes, it goes through cycles, and I think we may be in a warming cycle. It may or may not have to do with what we are doing to the earth. One day, Earth will get tired of all the parasites living on it, and will shake itself like a great big dog with fleas, to rid itself of the pests. I have never seen these marshes .. this is an awesome photo!

Superb composition. I believe the Native Americans have the right ideas about the Earth. Unfortunately, they are far in the minority and so are their beliefs.

Jock is right. We need the salt marshes and wetlands for the wildlife and to protect our coastline. The marsh absorbes storm surges from hurricanes. One of the reasons the Corps of Engineers started working on the Mississppi River 120 years ago was to make sure the river didn't change course so Baton Rouge and New Orleans would be port cities. The fear was that the river was changing course and some day would flow out into the Atchafalya swamp. Anyway, it's a wonderful view of natural Louisiana!

Global warming is not new, but it is a new means of extortion to make us pay more for services that we do not require to combat it. In a nutshell...show me an honest politician and I will show you the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow....never!! Your image is excellent Jock and a great medium for debate. Well done
