Description

Been playing in Vue (again!). This time was an exercize in caustics and volumetric lights. The only import here are the ruins and columns but they came in untextured. I applied one of the marine ecosystems to them and they turned out well. The foreground is a procedural terrain also using a marine ecosystem. The water plane uses the default water texture and the light rays come from a volumetric quadratic spot light with a custom light gel. (FWIW - the light rays don't show up in the nano preview, which is a bit disconcerting.) The whales and fish are .vob objects found in Vue. This was rendered using the Ultra setting and took just a little over an hour.

That is good! Very good! Regarding composition, i think the fish dont contrast with the background (at first i didnt see them at all). Maybe you could put them higher or change the background in that area. Caustics dont seem to be on, they're not visible in the plants nor in the fish and ground (only very slightly visible in the whale on the left). I also had some troubles making them visible in my pic "sleeping with sharks". I enabled the Vue option "show caustics" but still it wouldnt show, i didnt know why. So, i had to create additional underwater spotlights with caustics light gels, pointing at the places i specifically wanted caustics.

The volumetrics did come out very very nicely :) Really nice underwater atmosphere and color as well. There is a little bit of grainyness to the background that maybe you can get rid of (antialiasing in Vue's settings, or postwork remove noise filter). Also if the whales are rigged and poseable, might want to give them a little variation in pose. Very cool job texturing the ruins.

Excellent effort here! Generally agreeing with Rutra and Pjz99's comments. Good work though! I particularly like the textgure on the ruins.

I agree with Rutra and pjz99, some more contrast on the fish and, if possible, more diversion on the whales. I believe that the graininess can be removed if you put the quality dial on volumetric lights higher. This will, however, significantly increase the render time. Overall a very nice picture, good work.
