Description

Did some postwork on this to remove the noise and, basically, improve the image based on the comments made by all my friends in the Critique Group. Believe me, they are appreciated. It's because of you all that my craft is improving. The render settings for this were on Ultra, which means a lot of anti-aliasing. Since this is Vue 6 Esprit there are some functions I don't have access to but the Quality gain is 77% and my anti-aliasing is set at 75%. That should have been high enough to remove the noise but, obviously, it wasn't. I'll be happier when I can afford to move over to V6 Infinite ... LOL!

Beautiful, nicely laid out ecosystem. Love the lights and the posing. I don't know if it was your intention, but the image gives a nice feeling of anticipation. The three whales circling and hovering above a hidden depression... What will arise? Good work.

This looks better. The fish are still not noticeable enough but they do look better. I prefered the water/volumetrics in the 1st version, now in the 2nd version it's not as sharp, due to postwork. To get rid of grain, postwork is generally a poor replacement to just higher render settings (i know, this sucks, but that's life...). Regarding your render settings, to remove the grain, more important than quality gain is anti-aliasing quality and the max number of sub-rays per pixel. For this image, I would say at least 50 for max subrays and anti-aliasing should be at least 95%. These were my settings in "sleeping with sharks". This will increase your render times tremendously but you can compensate (partially) with keeping "advanced effects quality" at 46% and, very important, in the atmosphere editor, you should make light quality boost at -1. It's really great to see your evolution in Vue. I was today browsing through your gallery and the evolution is remarkable.

Now I have seen both images and I must say, this is a great improvement to the first, especially about the ruins - their edges are no very smooth as I suppose they would appear under water. The light beams are very good. Great work!

@Rutra - first of all, thanks for all the comments, critiques and "Atta Girl!"'s. They're definitely appreciated. I'll give your suggestions a try this evening. Right now I'm putting together a castle for a scene that's been begging to come to life.

I liked the first one better, sorry. Rutra was right. Not sure if you think it will be of importance to your image, but you can use ecosystems in a Vue solid (a cube), make it a very thin, 100% transparent material. Populate with fish changing the "offset from surface". You will be able to have fish all over, not just near the ground. Even if it doesn't look, I like it. You done very good and I envy you and your will. Congrats :o)

I prefered the first version, after comparing them a while here. The blurring does not help the image that much, the caustics were more impressive in the first picture. Both are great, though.

I agree, although both pictures are pleasing, i like the first one better. Although it's feasible that the water would blur out distant objects, maybe there's too much blurring on this one? Impressive scene, though.
