Description

Soak up those rays, my stoic little friends! Another shot of reptilian life forms (thank you, Star Trek, for that term), snapped 3/9/07, from alongside a lake shore deep in the bowels of the El Dorado Nature Center in Long Beach, California. Enjoy what is left of the weekend!

Wow - nice, close shot! I like the markings on their heads. They look like they have rosy cheeks. The light/shadow contrast is particularly pleasing to me in this one. You do good work, my friend!

Beautiful capture of what red-earred sliders do best... nothing. They sun themselves to build calcium to keep a good quality shell and strong bones. Excellent!

How cute! Did you know turtle comes from a native american word for, " animal that bites and never lets go"? BJ

As Richard said, who did you managed to capture them? Are they real?...LOL. When I want to shot turtles all I end up with a waterripples no turty, they always disapear so quickly. Very good shot of a shielded family of four.

Okay, for those of you who wonder why the turtles don't dive into the lake the moment they see me, I prevent that by slowly approaching the reptiles, then waiting a few moments, then taking a step forward and standing still with no sudden movements, then repeating that process until I'm practically on top of them. Most of the time it works, sometimes it doesn't. I also speak very softly, trying to convince them I'm a nice guy and mean them no harm.

LOL - we come in peace to "capture" new life-forms (starts to sing along with Data.... "life-forms, little life-forms, where are you?") sorry, a little outburst from the Next Gen - yes, a Trekker!! As for this shot, superb my dear friend, a wonderful tender mood seeing the family altogether, us mere humans could learn a lot from these little creatures. Excellent composition and great colours and lighting too. xx
