Description

In her post this morning, MrsLubner mentioned the homeless catching and eating the fish in her haven of solitude, so I took it upon myself to go Diane Arbus on you today and upload a shot I took on 6/19/07 at about 7:15 AM of a lady sleeping on a grass divider that separates a large gas station from the sidewalk that is adjacent to a very busy intersection, especially at that time of the morning. The gas station is toward the top of the image, the street toward the bottom. She was there when I left the scene, and was still there when I returned about 50 minutes later. I assume she is homeless, but her clothes and stuff are in pretty good shape, with no faded colors, patches, holes or rips that I could detect. And, she wasn't waiting while her car was being repaired, because the station offers only gas/petrol, air, water, snack food, and nothing else. I used to see transients sleeping under freeway overpasses, but the local authorities have since made them move and seek shelter elsewhere. Enjoy your bountiful life style, because there, but for the grace of whichever deity we worship, go us!

I'm no bleeding-heart but this so sad and must be fixed....this lady is someones daughter, possibly a mother and/or sister.... could you imagine you mother like that?? Too many to help. I say do what you can when you can, if we all do the same it could help. It won't eliminate the problem but any dent is still a dent....most of the homeless are that way by no fault of their own.....damn... great, yet sad, work... -chachi

I don't know about other places but here in my town, a large percentage of the homeless I run into do not want help other than some change or cigarettes. They refuse the social services offered and say they just want to be left alone by people and agencies that are trying to "better" them. But we are the "big city." I think maybe we have a different sort of homeless population here for the most part. I will take a person to Taco Bell or MacDonalds and buy them lunch or dinner but I will not just hand over change and walk away. nice shot.

A very thought-provoking image Harry and I agree with both chachi and MrsLubner, not just to keep the peace here, but because there is an element of both sides all around us!! A great shot, well worth posting imo!! xx

A reminder to be thankful for what we have and to have some compassion for those that don't have.

I buy them food but most wish for money so they can buy beer or wine or drugs. Some of the shelders will let them stay a night then charge them $5 a night after that. some people is looking for that $5 so they can stay in a shelter. Some do not wish for a shelter for then they can not drink or do drugs. They are tested at the shelters I hear. Most of them bring this upom themselfs. Not all so are mental cases that do need help but they on the streets with no help and the cops thinks they on drugs but they not.

The calendar shows 2007 and we still see homeless ppl everywhere. This woman story is a mistery we only guessing what happened to her. Her favour is this is summer time...would be more hars in winter. Great shot Harry to relize many of us have food and laughter, some not so furtunate.

It's tough to know, just from looking at someone, what their situation is. Perhaps she is homeless. Perhaps she has a story to tell about how she got there and where she's going, and isn't homeless at all. Either way, the issue of homeless people is a tough one. If it were easily resolved, it would have been done already. Hard things to think about! So many variables. Thank you for such a thought-provoking image, my friend!
