Description

"If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favourable." ~ Seneca

The Port of Miami is one of the busiest in the United States and the sheer volume of cargo that is shipped in and out of it is staggering. To help with this high traffic volume, 2 new cranes (numbers 11 & 12) were purchased from China and brought in on a giant cargo wessel in 2005. These modern behemoths make even the giant older black cranes (7-10 shown) seem puny. Again, the detail is best viewed at FULL SIZE. You can read more about these cranes and see photos as they were shipped in full assembled from Shanghai HERE. {---link ------

Great detail, and thanks for the back story on the cranes. Right now there are two huge construction cranes outside my office window, but nothing like this. Still, it was amazing to watch them build one in just over a day.

Awesome machinery and an excellent photograph. I think we shall have something similar to these in our sky line soon as Europes biggest container port is being built just 5 miles down the road. I bet they don't paint ours such pretty colours we'll probably get the plain black :D

I have always loved the action found in and around ports. I have seen the ports in Houston, Sacramento, San Francisco, and Galveston. Each so different according to their needs and traffic. This is a poetic shot. Very well composed. Good photo all around.

Great detail, and those things are enormous. They look like giant mechanical soldiers standing at attention.

Talk about behemoths ! the old ones only have a small shed for the operation, while the new ones have a two story mansion with a roof-top garden ! Interesting port shot & ~Cheers~ :o)

The cranes are absolutely awesome at this POV and perspective, wonderfully contrasted against the deep blue sky, and, all lined up artillery-wise, vis-a-vis the many battles fought throughout the long history of warfare.

Glad you captured that speed boat in the lower right since it really puts the size of the cranes in perspective. Excellent. Hugs, Suzanne
