Description

Lavender's blue, dilly dilly, Lavender's green. When I am king, dilly dilly, You will be queen. (17th century English folk song) .................. This is yet another iris from the Walsterway Iris Gardens in Maltby, Washington! It doesn't look much like the ones I've already posted, because those have all been bearded iris. There are hundreds of varieties of iris, bearded and otherwise. Growers and breeders come up with some pretty spectacular color combinations, and it's all very serious! (Well - it's serious to them. I just take pictures and say, "Ooh! Pretty!" a lot.) I brightened the levels a little bit on this, since the flower was in the shade, but I assure you that those colors are really real! Aside from the light level, I didn't change a thing. ................. Full view is worth it, and if you have the ability to zoom, give it a shot! The color combination in this is pretty amazing.

there is something almost sensual about the curves, veins, and implied velvety softness of the petals... 'beautiful' somehow seems cliche and inadequate, yet it's the best i can summon before my morning coffee ;o) beautiful shot, tara...

Hmm ... I seem to remember a song from the 50's with the same lyrics -- I believe it was by Solomon Burke. Not nearly as beautiful as your wonderful presentation. Great colors and clarity, even zoomed 400%.

Ah, such a gorgeous iris. I have only a few of the varieties - bearded, asian, and peacock but I have thought a lot about adding some of the more non-traditional breeds to the collection. This is a great photo and really makes me think more about adding those flowers...:-)

Lavender? That's odd, I thought it was mauve. Oh well. Your POV, excellent in its own right, is amazingly similar to the one employed by MrsL in her latest posting. In any event, I really like the light and shadow effects and veiny textures displayed by the petals. Verreeee purty, my dear!
