Description

AloooooooHa! Back once again from this past weekends shoot at Waipio Valley on the Big Island. In my last post, I showed you a shot facing the ocean. In Hawaii we give directions by referring to the ocean "Makai" or towards the Mountains "Mauka". Today's post I turned the camera towards the mountains or "Mauka" to get this shot of the same river from my previous post. This river is formed by rains in the mountains and it winds it way through this valley and deposits at the mouth I'm shooting from. Taro which is made into Poi is grown in this valley, feed by the streams that run into this river. Some of the best Poi in the islands comes from this valley. Poi is an acquired taste, and it's more of a side dish than a main meal....a great substitute for rice. Many thanks for your kind comments on my previous post, and Many Mahalo's for dropping by for a peek....One more day till I'm off....whew what a week...Aloha~

What a beautiful image! (You can keep the poi, though - I've not acquired that taste!)

What a beautiful shot, Dave! There are certainly advantages to getting up really early; the river isn't likely to be so calm any time later in the day. I love the reflections, and the way the sky is so much darker in the water.

Nice shot of this beautiful place. One could never get tired of this place, you would always want to come back for more. And we will too. Excellent shot of the "Mauka" area. Aloha

Beautiful landscape accentuated by the reflection - and I love how it gradually turns black in the foreground. Excellent!

The beauty and lush serenity of the fertile valleys of Hawaii. You captured that perfectly in this one Dave. Casts me back to my days as a Boy Scout camping and hiking in them.

What an amazing reflection you've caught here Dave!!! Gorgeous image!!!!! Maybe poi is an acquired taste but, there's no doubt that poi is GOOD for everyone. It's an excellent source of fiber and vitamins C and B-1, as well as potassium, magnesium and iron. And poi won't make you fat. It has fewer calories than rice (one cup of ready-to-eat poi has 120 calories; one cup of cooked rice has 250) I've also read that poi has saved many babies lives who couldn't keep mother's milk down!! So that's all I know about poi!!!! Sorry for the ramble, I just love great information!!! Aloha... ;-)
