Description

Nikon 7900 image. This little beauty is a "kleptoparasite". They steal food from the webs of other spiders. It is a species named Argyrodes nephilae. I found several of them next to the web of a female Black and Yellow Argiope. This species spins a horizontal strand or two of silk just a few mm away from the web of the spider they steal from. They then creep out and feed from prey that has been caught by someone else. Of course they have to be very careful because they could just as easily be caught and eaten themselves. They are pretty good at it though, lol. I have seen them feed from the same meal, at the same time, as the much much much larger Argiope. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

This is an awesome spider! Look at those colors. Wow. And so tiny...you really did a great job here with the focus and clarity. The pov and the finger as a comparison for size... it all works!

Great shot. It amazes me how you captures those. Next time you have that lil guy on your finger (or a relative of his) move into the sunshine so you can capture great shadows from his legs and body. Nice work Lee
