I am interested in creating art in many, many forms. I have played with digital painting, vector illustration, web design, comics, weaving, beading, pencil and ink drawing, oil and watercolor painting, computer case modification, photography, collage, paper-making, digital video, animation, video installation, environmental installation, non-silver printmaking, creative writing, poetry, book-binding, music, and probably more that I can't think of right now...I am totally new to 3D art, in the sense that I dabbled in Poser and Rhino for a bit in college...but in this past year I think I may have found one of my artistic callings, which for me (the poster child of artistic ADHD) is saying quite a lot.I really enjoy viewing the work of artists who have been around for awhile, especially when you can see a definite change in the quality of their work over the years. It gives me hope for my own work to see that an incredible artist now was at one time not the best in the world, and it makes me think that it's possible for me to do the same.Anyway, I'm not good at going out and looking for friends...but add me if you like my work and think I have something to learn from you, or vice-versa. Thank you so much for viewing my humble webpage!

Great piece. I like the scene. Can't help you with textures or anything as I am new to all of this, but your work is great.

I'm not at all sure that you need a more "realistic" wing texture. This one works with the drama of what she is wearing. Your portrayal is internally coherent as it is. (I say all this not from doing rendering or using these 3D wings myself, as yet, but from having seen thousands of winged works at R'osity that have done so.) Look at your title, both delightfully pithy and perfectly accurate: "Aglow." She is, indeed, lit from within, and not overly so. The resonance from her upper body and wings shows up on her hair and the top folds of a beautifully windswept dress. And, subtly and remarkably, from her lower body, on the underside of the dress! You've taken the idea of her generating a personal light — whether it has an overlay of metaphor or not — and made it work effectively already. You have no other apparent light source, as the Moon is only indirectly highlighting the clouds, and not her. The artistic conceit is carried out. Why change one of the key components? It's ironic, I'd say. This is one of the few works I've run across where the artists actually prefers a critique (though I don't follow the "Critique" gallery), and I prefer to leave constructive comments, certainly ones with some detail. And yet ... I can't see my way to being critical here! You ought to leave this as it is, and let her inner glow make the most of those beautiful wings, her smile, and her windswept gown. Besides, I've just fave'd this, so you can't withdraw it now {g} My own crotchet, in closing: I've long believed that winged humans don't have to be cast in the expected roles, and that they can be seen in a this-worldly framework, going "beyond fae and angels" — as my two Elfwood guided tours (accessible here) are titled. You say, yourself, that this is meant to be a realistic image. Any winged humans would challenge enough of the "expected" physics and other elements of this world to allow for ... thinking of an element at random ... generating their own energy? {g} Because they would need sixty-foot wingspans to fly by moving air! To me, in short, the realism already works on its own allowing-for-wings-at-all terms, she doesn't have to be viewed as an "angel," and you should stay with this creation as it is. And in non-short, thanks for indulging me in this commentary.
