Description

Upload: 026 V Title: Barn door No. 2 Series: from Landscapes near home Location: Alhambra Road, El Sobrante, California Date: August 17, 2007 Image: N06971M1b2 Camera: Nikon D70, Full Frame Commentary: This last weekend has been a very emotional time for me and by no mean in a negative way, even though I was ready to cry a tear more than a dozen times if I would only let them. We all impact someone elses life in some way. It could be in a small way, almost insignificant or just the opposite; it is all in how we care to measure it. Sharing comes easy for some, or giving of a lending hand were the giver does not think of payment or a reward, so when I am reminded how I have in my small way, influenced someones direction in the arts, I am truly humbled. When I started my advertising photography business in the early eighties, technical secrecy was a must to remain competitive, though with the last decade or so, I have also realized by not sharing my experience, my life would be worth very little, having wasted the very gifts with which I have been blessed with, by squandering them selfishly upon myself. However it does not end there, rather sharing is only the beginning. When another embraces the knowledge that is given, making good use of it, is a good thing. Taking it to the next level and improving upon the knowledge, that is even better. I have a wonderful family for which I am very grateful, that in itself gives meaning to my life and yet knowing that an insignificant act of kindness on my part has changed someone elses creative thinking simple means that I live on in a small way in that persons life. Should they pass along the knowledge, though altered and improved, or adapted to their way of thinking, the seed that was planted matures with each passing of the gift to the next person. Please do not think I am totting my own horn here, as I also acknowledge the many different hands that reached out towards me in my lifetime, I just wish to demonstrate that one simple act of kindness can make all the difference in someone elses life. Instead of destroying we are building bridges to unite and in doing so, we are indeed enriched beyond measure. Call me an old fashion sentimental fool if you will, but my goblet runs over with joyful tears I have cried and treasured.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my work and commenting. Vielen danke das sie die Zeit genommen haben meine Arbeit zu betrachten und darauf zu Kommentieren. Egmont

Your words as well as images are always treasured Egmont. I get so much out of both. You share in both knowledge, art and feelings. A great gift to us all. (Now where is those abstracts!)

Great compo and lighting. Nicely done mate. It is unfortunate that this world is driven by competition. Sharing and giving of yourself is often seen as a sign of weakness. Personally, I pity people who think like this. I havent got much to teach people, but I do get a kick out of seeing someone take something I've told them that next little step.

Most interesting capture of the woods patterns. Tone works so well and a light is perfect.

Very good textures and lighting. I also find the rather plainer board second from right to be very important as I think the whole thing would be too 'busy' without it but this board has a calmimg influence. Excellent!!

Well I totally agree Egmont, one of my favourite quotes is "Share your knowledge, it's a way to achieve immortality" and I think in essence, this is what you have so eloquently said in your narrative. For those that believe knowledge is power, then good luck to them, but personally, I get far more from sharing than not (Not that I have much to share in the way of photography, but there are many other things though). As for your wonderful picture, this is another masterpiece and has the Egmont stamp all over it - I feel I could walk into an art gallery and recognise your works now without any introduction. You have an eye for detail, texture, light and shadow and this image has all of those and so much more too. The depth is fantastic. You inspire me every time I look at your photos. xx

Egmont, what a beautiful photograph to accompany such beautiful and heartfelt words. There is nothing better than to allow yourself to express the way you feel, and you seem to do this brilliantly, and it is ever so evident in each one of your photographs. There is so much heart and soul in each and every one of your postings. Reminds me of something I read recently about imagining the human soul "Look at each object present, and do not see a face before you, but a soul". This seems to describe your images so well, as they all have this trait. I can't help but notice that rusty nail "half" protruding from the wood, seems out of place, and in need to be "pushed" back in. There is so much to be read from your black and white photograph. The linear theme you have prevalent is very interesting, and can be read in many ways. It's not always as straight as we'd like--- as we are always thrown onto many "curved" pathways instead. To me, this linearity resembles the "desired" perfection (and no, I'm not a Freudian ;) ). You are indeed, blessed with a very special talent and gift for art and creation...

Good Evening, Dear Egmont. A work of great beauty, the light is so lovely. A superb artwork. I want to reach in and feel this barn door on the palm of my hand. My Father loved "good wood" and so do I. I hear the story the door tells, I listen for the now silent voices. How many hands have touched this door. Echoes of gentle hands from the past. Your words move me greatly. Such grace in giving and also in receiving. You have touched my life, Egmont by being you. I like to hear your voice, your thoughts. We all reach out to each other. Your hand is alway open, you give of yourself. Treasured artworks, thoughts and deep feelings. You enrich my life, always. I thank you. My Hugs. Diane.
