Description

Upload: 025 H Title: Barn door hinge Series: from Landscapes near home Location: Alhambra Road, El Sobrante, California Date: August 17, 2007 Image: N06948M1b2 Camera: Nikon D70, Full Frame Commentary: Even an abstract one does not paint alta prima or casually without giving the concept some serious thought. As the idea is being executed on canvas and even when one thinks it is finished, the painting is studied further. For of the three paintings I thought I had finished a week ago, I now find myself going over two of them, fine tuning if you will, so that which was visualized in the mind is realized in paint and on canvas. In the meantime it was another quick trip to the local countryside yesterday, in the hope of photographing a group of trees within a gulch, just as the warm fading sunlight would scatters across the land close to the ground, drenching all in its wake with its soft amber glow. I found I was a little too late, for the opposite hillside had cast a long shadow on the foreground of the very trees, which were my objective, as they were being toned in a warm light. I took a number of exposures and continued my walk, using the camera as my sketchbook. Further along the path the deer had made with there daily trips to higher ground, there stands a barn, now out of commission and used as a bird study and sanctuary. It had not been my intention to have another visit at the barn, but I also could not stop, as I was being pulled into that direction. After a few photographs of the main open area of the barn, the eye moved off to the side, where a smaller sliding door rested shut, but casual like against its frame. By now the sun had dropped lower, while caressing the woods texture, I hurried, setting up my tripod and going to work at a fevers pace, in order to make every moment count. Back home I worked for the next six and a half hours on the ten images I had edited from the barn, selecting the final best three. Enjoy!

Thank you for taking the time to look at my work and commenting. Vielen danke das sie die Zeit genommen haben meine Arbeit zu betrachten und darauf zu Kommentieren. Egmont

Amazing textures and light. TY for the description of your day as well. So many photos feel like snapshots of unreality, with nothing to anchor themselves to. This feels more real for being contextualised into a day full of events. Nicely done.

A vsry powerful image Egmont, The strong lines and contrast between light and shade produce a great abstract as well as being a very appealing figurative close up. Excellent!!

Wonderful composition we can of course break the so called rules that are laid down.. But there are times in such images like this when we see the reason for them!!

Well I am so pleased that you were drawn to the barn as this is a fantastic piece of photographic art! The textures are amazing as is the lighting and I love the composition used - I don't think I would have ever thought about capturing the same hinge in this way - you are an inspiration. xx

Outstanding photography my friend. The graphic lines and texture mixed with this lighting are superb! And await the abstracts! :) Although sometimes "being done" with a painting is an improbability! Wonderful work!

One could not ask for better lighting. You image stands alone well as a study in shape and texture, but with you commentary much is added. :)

Good evening, dear Egmont, A superbly crafted capture, the light is so gracious. Your artwork is superb. I like to look longly at your posts. Always seeing something more on second or tenth glance. Your works always make me stop, be quiet and still. I like that. As beautiful as this capture is the write up of your day. So lovely to read. I feel I am standing behind you watching as the hours tick by. I will read again before I leave. A wonderful evening is wished for you, my dear friend. Hugs. Diane.

OHHH MYYY..! This is indeed superb. It makes me dream..again...of having a new and better camera with a tripod, as my husband promised me for my B-day, so I maybe could make something just a fraction of what you are showing here. I love it.... and I do love your story about it too.
