Description

Destruction As I arrived at East Timor the first time, during war EM 1999, all was destroyed. A whole devastated country, set fire to, plundered. According to calculations, the country had was burned to 90% by Indonesian army. The vision was halucinante. Even among the war correspondents more expérients, nobody had seen that. In Lebanon, where the combat had been terrible, the destruction was by districts, not all the hurdy-gurdy. Even the Khmer Rouges had emptied completely Phnonh Phen, had left a ghost city, but intact. When the door of transport of troops plane, a Hercules 130 (thank you French Army!) is open , I knew, before seeing. All is burned. The smell was terrible, insuportable.

Yet after all this carnage, the chidren can sit on burnt out vehicles and smile. It truly is shameful, this is the only life the children know, to them this is normal. The adult populace should know that 'we do not own the world, we are merely cartakers for future generations' it is these future generations that I fear for. Excellent photography!!!!!

the ravages of war never make sense or the loss of innocent life's.I think people on a whole want a peaceful life and a few arrogant greedy people create the atmosphere for conflicts.dragging everyone into the quagmire

An horrific scene. As always the children and the weak suffer the most. I hope these little children found help. Humankind has a lot to answer for... Your shot speaks thousands of words.. Diane.

Wars are indeed horrible. Our country's anniversary of the planes hitting the World Trade Center and the Pentagon is tomorrow... 9-11 or as we call it 911. Binlaudin (spelling?) just put out a video and you can tell he's aged. Our country feels tomorrow could get scarey. It is not good to live in fear. What a smell you must of smelt when you shot this picture.

We are learning much from your excellent photography. The reportage reveals the inhuman conduct against other humans. We are the only species that kills and destroys for no reason at all. Thank you for sharing. egmont
