Description
Destruction
Destruction
As I arrived at East Timor the first time, during war EM 1999, all was destroyed. A whole devastated country, set fire to, plundered. According to calculations, the country had was burned to 90% by Indonesian army. The vision was halucinante.
Even among the war correspondents more expérients, nobody had seen that. In Lebanon, where the combat had been terrible, the destruction was by districts, not all the hurdy-gurdy.
Even the Khmer Rouges had emptied completely Phnonh
Phen, had left a ghost city, but intact.
When the door of transport of troops plane, a Hercules 130 (thank you French Army!) is open , I knew, before seeing. All is burned. The smell was terrible, insuportable.

Reminds me how lucky I am to live where I do and that my kids are with me. I hate it how a lot of children in this world must be subjected to wars. Powerful image

Childern can always see the bright side, but just shouldn't happen, I wish we could just live together in peace, but GREED seems to ruin that ideal all the time ! ~Cheers~

Great imagery. It's a shame the eye only processes one of the senses. The sounds, smells, tastes, and feelings of the moment must be horrendous. Keep up the good work!

A wonderful capture of this terrible devastation. A very evocative photo showing what a mess we humans are making of this world. Brilliant composition and clarity with awesome lighting. A terrible yet true picture taken and exhibited with compassion. Hugs Sylki

We in the West sympathise with the people of East Timor.

If one did not know, one would believe this is the aftermath of a tsumani, or a huricane or some horrific natural cataclysm. It is difficult to understand that this was done by humans to their own kind.
