Description

Nikon 7900 image. This is another image from earlier this season. It shows a female Slaty Skimmer. They definitely look different than the males as can be noted by looking at the image I posted yesterday. I did not see many of these females this year and most of the ones I did see were not at my pond. They spent most of their time in open grassy areas. The few times I did see them near the water was in mating or egg-laying situations. The females of several species seem to follow this example. This particular image is one of my experiments with holding some sort of background behind the Dragonfly as I took the pic. In this instance, as in a few of my other posted Dragonfly images, that background was a piece of foil backed insulation board. The greenish color was created by the reflection of the foliage that was all around the Dragonfly. It was a very bright day and I did have to do some softening and blending to overcome a number of hot spots that the sun produced. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee
