Description

My next photograph from the Rocky Mountain National Park. The previous one was "Uninformed Formations" thumb_1525033.jpg I love trees as if they were people, and therefore a fallen tree is a sad sight to me. However, the death of this tree revealed its glorious internal beauty. Isnt the color so much more vibrant than the gray bark on the outside? shouldnt we have appreciated it more when it was alive? but then it was just another tree in the forest... And it still didnt finish contributing to its environment, still an enabler - light for the saplings, runway and resting place for the squirrel... Perhaps you'll have an opportunity to appreciate a tree today. (PS I thought the animal was a chipmunk, but apparently it's a golden mantled squirrel)

Nice one ... the "texture" next to the chipmunk on the tree looks funny... When i produce anything like that in Vue is called blocky and not lifelike :} Chris

gorgeous color, and great contrast between the background, the bark and the decaying wood.

Wonderful observation and thoughts as well as an excellent photo!!! IF you ever get a chance to go to Yellowstone Park, there is a lookout spot near the Yellowstone Falls where hundreds of these little chipmunks gather to be fed by the bags of peanuts you purchase at the lookout station. I lived near Yellowstone (Cody) and worked as a tourist reservation clerk for a summer. Again ... A Wonderful piece.

What a great shot!! Our squirrels in Germany are always on the run and so no great chance to take a snap.

incredible series of pics. having lived most of my life in Colo. and spending a huge amount of every summer in the mountains I can vouch for the reality of these shots. you have taken me back years into a land that I have permanently etched in my memory. thanks

Great colors indeed, great contrast. At first, the squirrel seems just like another branch, very interesting.
