Description

Meddle not in the affairs of Dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup. thanks for stopping by... seems we have a Dragon thing going lately. DAZ Studio render. Postwork in Photoshop. Inspired by some old covers of Dragon Magazine - this is a lighting and materials study (it was also a lot of fun). The idea here is to define the Black Dragon against the black background. This is accomplished through the specular highlighting and reflective properties of the materials. All of the dragon skin uses fresnel reflection/refraction to give a reflective glint. This is very expensive in terms of render time, but I think it ultimately pays off. Lighting uses Dreamlight's free studio lightset as a base and adds a Studio Light Pro Area light to fatten things up a bit. Millineum Dragon, Textures and SLP available at DAZ. Dragon Head morphs from the BattlePack set by Snowsultan. My thanks to everyone who has commented on previous images - as always your critique and suggestions for improvement are valued.

Before I even read your text it was apparent that you'd put a lot of work into pulling a great deal of detail out of a black dragon against a dark background. I especially like the way the horns and eye came out. The horns really have a nice solid, bony look. It also seems you used a bit of DoF which paid off nicely.

This has worked very well, the dragon looks ace, a very interesting explanation - I would like to hear more on the technicals involved.
