Description
Captured 8/25/07, on a somewhat overcast day during a parade celebrating the 50th birthday anniversary of my city.
Okay, the two immaculately clad ladies riding sidesaddle in the center most likely represent the British royalty foxes and hounds crowd, but I have no idea who the riders on either side represent, albeit most likely light cavalry, such as dragoons, fusiliers, hussars, and/or lancers. I extremely doubt they're Cossacks or Tatars.
Incidentally, their horses appear much different than those ridden by the caballeros.
Yoicks, and away!

I don't know who out there has ever tried riding side-saddle but if you have, you know how much fun it isn't. I rode horses every day for 5 years and then was approached to see if I would like to try out an old side saddle they had bought. The feeling the cinch is going to loosen and leave you on the ground or hanging off the side is incredibly strong. And getting on it and out of it is pure hooie. This is a great shot - getting them all in a row like that and with so much detail. It's so clear, I believe those are all quarter horses except one that might possibly be an Arabian... I can't tell those except by profile... Very well done, Harry. (BTW, I much prefer the other horses for grace and fine lines...)

Good shot! I guess, the red ones are British dragoons, the 3 on the right side represent Prussian hussars from different decades of the 19th century.

Well here I am again Harry, you thought I had forgotten? Another fantastic shot from you and so clear. You are right it is even better viewed full size. Very interesting reading about the horses from you and MrsLubner - As for me I prefer to just wonder at those magnificent creatures, but there is no way I would ride one.

A fine shot, my friend! Full view is wonderful - like being there! If you number the horses 1-8, starting on the left, I am particularly taken with the twinsical nature of #1 and #5. If it weren't for some minor differences, I would not have been surprised to find that you had put your prodigious postwork skills to use and made one of them up! You have left me a clue, so I can now tell you that I have been to your fine city on numerous occasions, although it has been over 25 years since I last laid eyes on the neighborhoods you frequent. All those years ago, in another life, I had in-laws there.

In the little town I grew up in horses were a feature of the Memorial Day parade each year with the Sherrif and his daughter the most ornate. I can tell an Arab from a Clydesdale but begin to stumble on Percheron and Morgan.

What a colorful shot, I think the period clothing really sets this apart. Nice work ol boy!!

These folks evidently like to dress up and take their riding seriously...I like the colors and composition in this one...

love this image of the riders

I used to own two mares and I NEVER thought they'd do well in a parade! They were touchy enough on their own territory. (I would refuse to sit, much less hunt, side saddle.. lol) What a regal line up you've captured!
