Description
This lovely bay is a few minutes from home, with a vast array of eye-catching 'float-homes' permanently moored there. This is one of many, and whenever one is for sale, I enjoy viewing it. Many have little wood fires, 'gardens' and often, stained glass windows. Cowichan Bay is also home to several families of Great Blue Herons, kingfishers, seals, otters, salmon (of course) and swifts. It is deep enough to accomodate the three Orcas that came to visit a while ago too, and has been a marvelous spot in which to simply float on the water to watch a total lunar eclipse.
I had a delightful experience there several years ago. Climbing back up the companionway after being shown a friend's newly painted engine room, my face was exactly at port-hole level before I stepped back up onto the deck. To my astonishment and delight, on the other side of the glass, was a seal, ogling me with equal intensity! Our noses were perhaps inches apart! I will never forget those beautiful liquid eyes or the nostrils flaring out sideways as the seal stared back at me. Enjoy, and thanks for visiting.

Other than making us extremely envious in re your idyllic environment, that is a remarkable postcard capture of the boats and dock facilities. Wonderful clarity and mood and love the water reflections. Incidentally, in an effort to get you back to visiting my gallery, I'm posting a nice flower picture tomorrow in commemoration of my 500th upload.

What a beautiful picture and a wonderful story of you and your friend, the seal. What an amazing experience that must have been.

I would never leave this place. The house would go to rack and ruin but I would be happy in this pier all the days of my life. Really outstanding shot. I had a seal-like experience near Ft. Bragg. I was walking the beach and rounded a bend to find a colony of sea lions on a rock not far off shore. There was a small area where boulders rose up and went out from the sand about 1/2 way to the rock with the sea lions on it. The sea is rough out this way so I thought I'd wade in this protected area between the rocks. I kept an eye on the sea lions and I was amazed to see a pup start swimming towards me. It got up to about 10 feet from me and stopped. I got nervous when I saw mom swimming up behind the pup! But she nudged her child and they swam back out to their communal rock. But for a moment, the pup had no fear of me and I had none of it. We shared a mutual moment. It sure makes you suck in air, huh?
