Description

Madeira Bananas When you are not used to seeing these trees back home I just found it amazing that we were walking down a main road and you could lean over and almost touch them. Throughout the year there grows a diverse amount of plants , fruit and vegetables. the main produce was grapes to make the wonderful Madeira Wine and Sweet Bananas which we were told are a smaller and sweeter veriety from what we would see in the UK Supermarkets One bunch of fruit per tree is produced. After baring fruit the tree dies off but is capable of self reproduction so new shoots grow at the base. The farmer keeps the stongest shoot and it takes 10months to produce more fruit. thanks for viewing and I wish you all well.

Looks like you are in the middle of the jungle Alan, not walking down the street. I would be tempted to lean over and grab one of the yellow ones to eat. Wonderful colours & suculent bananas. Bravo!!!!!

In Texas on the coast where I lived we had several banana trees that made fruit. They were small also but very flavorful. In the winter they would freeze and often the plants would turn to mush but in the spring they would push up again from the ground and start again. Wonderful shot.

I've seen banana trees all over, along the Nile, for one, and, would you believe it, along the West Coast, near Santa Barbara, California. Very nice and lush green image with the red flowery splashes adding an exotic touch.
