Description
It's one of the most holy places of all Burma. All Burmese dream to make this pilgrimage once in a lifetime. A single hair of Buddha is stronger than the law of gravity – all people tell you.
The huge rock, against all odds, was hanged at the edge of the precipice, tilted as if going to fall. "It don’t fall just because there was a hair of Buddha! "Like everything that is sacred, people covered the rock with gold leafs. You asked how. But there is not a single millimeter of the Rock that is not covered with gold.
The Golden Rock is a lost corner of Burma. In the middle of the jungle. At the center of nowhere. I put several years and several trips to decide. I go or not? One day for travel, one for the return. If all goes well ... During the monsoon, you can forget it. In addition, before the latter part of the journey is made exclusively in trucks where go hundreds of peoples. The last part is a climb on foot. Or chair porters. I swear, a bamboo chair with four porters who climb you to high. Before, the people made in elephants. .

Whoever had the task of painting that rock must have been getting danger money! Thought provoking image!

Did you kiss it? That is the way it is at Blarney. This one is more like the kissing camels in the Garden of the Gods. One gets the feeling that religion drws on a universal pagan tradition. One that has no means to propagate.

I can but reiterate what artaddict2 has said Mousson, in my eyes it has been well worth you trip to see this amazing rock covered in gold leaf and with a tower on the rock covered in gold. It is indeed amazing that it stays balanced as it is, I believe they do have earthquakes in that part of the world, which could so easely topple the stone. It's a miracle that the monsoon rains do not make it move. Like Alan I have looked forward with anticipation for your next image and narrative, wondering what new wonder you would show. I am envious of your travels around the world and I enjoy very much all your images. Bravo!!!!!

Amazing scene and great shot/POV, I would love to go there. The only criticism I have is that there seems to be a fair bit of dirt and scatches present which could be removed. :)

So many things in this world are hidden away in places we will never visit in our lifetime. You have made a journey of faith and shared what you found with us. Maybe the rock is a symbol of possibilities, that anything is possible including a rock that defies gravity. Thanks for sharing.
