Description
The Yokosuka was carried by Imperial Navy submarine classes - J1M,J2,J3,A1,A2,B1,B2,B3-each had one aircraft -class AM had two and class STO no less than three. The aircraft had the distinction of dropping the only bombs on the U.S. mainland in September 1942 - harmlessly in an Oregon forest.

Now that is an unuasual fact. Your title had me going for a moment, a vision of a huge aircraft carrying a sub. Actually it has been done, but only with rescue subs. The Germans had a secret weapon which was unknown until the surrender, a FA330 engineless roto glider which was towed behind a sub while the observer relayed reports of ship sightings from several hundred feet. Good image as usual

Japanese subs were either very large or small. I remember seeing the miniature of the sub. Good work.

This had me into some interesting research. It seems a submarine-based aircraft actually flew two missions into the USA, and dropped bombs into the Oregon forests with the intention of setting them alight. Some of the larger submarines were also operational at the end of the war and and a number were enroute to launch a combined attack on have launched an air attack on one of the naval bases when the Japanese surrender intervened. Nowadays the nearest similar feature is the launch of cruise missiles from submarines. Thanks Geoff, very thought-provoking. I like the slight darkening of the under-wing to clarify the actual viewpoint.

Great render of another little known plane. I saw an interview of one of the GLEN pilots in a history magazine a few years back. Cliff is right about the late war bombing mission. Can't think of the plane type, but it was mean and modern torpedo carrying floater. If memory serves they were to be one way attacks on the Panama Canal lock gates.
