Description

You come close to the orbit of Lieta, as you always have: to watch and listen to the whisperships. You know that soon, the big harvesters will follow. The small craft fly in triads--as is their custom--and you recognize your unique position among citizens of the Core Worlds. You will never return to the planet of your birth. You have made the decision to stay here--far from the softer comforts that have come to define yesterday's home, and you know what they're saying of you. Back there. --She's a fool to go there. She's looking for something, but she won't find it among...them.-- And who are they? Ah, yes the children of Nemaea. You've known of them all your life. As a child, they were the invisible wraiths in the dark, the not-exactly-human monsters coaxed (by your mother) at bedtime to keep you under the covers and away from the drives of your childish curiosity. You never slept, until you were ready though; your curiosity always impelled you to creep and linger (like a shadow) at the head of the stairs, listening to the mysteries of adult conversation in the kitchen or the common room. And now, far from that place and those people, you linger (yes, like a shadow) at the edges of arcane industry. You recognize friends among faces all too foreign to those you've left behind, and now, as you watch the whisperships, you imagine their crews. Their pilot-navigators a-swim in their tanks, and the mysterious bratiya...you never say their collective name in your own language. "The rocks whisper back," your new friends say. "What do they say?" you ask. Your new friend smiles. He is young, and you think that he's little more than a boy. He answers your questions with eager enthusiasm. "They give us permission to do what we must." There are other questions you have for him. But here in the depths of Nemaean Territory, you have learned patience, and you know--perhaps in a week, or in a day, he will answer your remaining questions, one at a time. So, for now, you content yourself with watching.... *** Yeah, just me indulging that Nemaean thing again. I was fiddling around with photoshop and this is what happened. The entire scene was rendered with filters and brushes, the ships are manipulations of photographs I took of random household items. Just an experiment, really, but I liked it enough to post, and hopefully you enjoy it as well. As always, thank you for viewing and commenting!

2D?! I like it a lot. You are a sci fi writer? If not, maybe you should consider. You've got a gift there. Figure out a simple plot, then embellish it appropriately to keep the scifi fans enthralled and entertained.
