Description

A Nile River Cruise, although, once the sail comes down, the "guests" will be pulling the oars. Even back then already, just as the Vikings did 2000 years later, when the sail is up, no one rows. When it's time to row, often not just the sail comes down, but even the mast. Way too many illustrations have that wrong - both cases. I know some ancient Egyptian paintings or carvings show that wrong, at times. However, they also described the practice, and then sail and oars were mutually exclusive. For those who might wonder, yes, pyramids were totally smooth, when new. The ragged look we see nowadays, is because people used them as a convenient source of building materials. The ship, sailors, temple, and pyramid, all modelled by me in Lightwave 3D, and then imported into Vue 5 Infinite (because Vue6i kept crashing when importing LW objects), then converted to the Vue object format, and finally loaded into Vue6i, where the landscape was created, and the image was rendered (ultra, but not radiosity - the latter, I believe, would even on my machine take a couple of days).

Superb work and accuracy here and wow you even got the gold captsone on the pyrimid...Okay mabye IT wasn't used as convenient building material, but given the habit of pilfering ancient Egypt's gold, is it any wonder that the captstone would be gone? Anyway, this is a fantastic render. I love it, especially since I am something of a very amateur armchair anthropologist/archaeologist when it comes to ancient Egypt.

Excellent work here, especially on the water and marshland. The only thing that detracts from this in my opinion is that the sail could stand to look a little worn or have a weave pattern blended into the texture. As it stands now it looks a little too much like a clean fresh piece of paper. Thanks for the history lesson as well!

Great Egyptian scene and the low water POV adds a lot of impact, very kool use of mediums !I agree with Pete, the sail needs something, maybe just a bit of a bend, to make it seem like it is billowing in the breeze ? just a suggestion. Well done & ~Cheers~ :o)

I did what I could, but Vue seems to be strangely resisting any layers to this end, or details I added. I dinally did grunge-up the sail in Photoshop, and when I look at the image in Vue (mapped picture) it looks great, when I see it rendered is is all pale and nearly invisible. So, I will live with what I've got. I managed to get some smudges on the sail, and that's better than what I had. On to something new.

Very cool work! I love this. It has the same sort of feel as your photography - an everyday scene, wonderfully captured.
