Description

I was downtown Dallas the other day taking pictures around the American Airlines sports arena and a new hotel across the street.mind you I was on a public sidewalk.some huge gorilla in a suit and walky talky comes out and asks if I have credentials for photography.I asked why, I am on a public sidewalk.he tried to tell me I could not take pictures of the hotel..I told him as long as I am on a public sidewalk, I will take pictures of anything I want.it is right in a huge tourist attraction and they are crazy for trying to enforce such a rule.I was polite but I wanted to tell him to go to hell, but he was about 6-4and 300# so I did not-haha thanks for viewing and any comments when viewing this picture I get the sensation of falling backwards.be forewarned!!!

Yep, I just love taking pictures when they tell you that you can't do it. I got some of my favorite shots at Japanese temples that don't let you take pictures.... Guess they are worried about terrorists. And yes, what about all the people who do carry GUNS. Doesn't make sense to me. Glad you got this shot off. Good going. Great POV. Aloha

How strange that he didn't want you to take pictures of the hotel. It is a public establishment, and you were on public property. Dallas is in the U.S., last I heard, and it's hard to believe he'd try to enforce such a ridiculous rule. Anyway, you got a fabulous shot...as you always seem to do.

A super capture and I would have told the gorilla off too. I wonder why they had the tents there to spoil the grandness of the building, perhaps that is where the gorilla came from. A promotion of some kind perhaps.

Richard, your photo is amazing. . . clearly wide angle to get the glorious wide scope view over everything, yet without fisheye distortion, the flagpoles are stright and parallel. Must be a distance, beautiful blue sky center, and photographer's skill thing!!! If only one could get these firms to be responsible when they mis-inform people on public property of their rights. IANAL, but believe: 1) We can take pictures of anything in view from public streets and sidewalks. 2) A model release is required if commercial gain is made when clearly identifiable people are in an photo. 3) There may be some slight limits on use of pictures with a prominate trademark in the image, again mostly related to commercial use and sales of a similar cataegory item related to the trademark. 4) Things we cannot take pictures of are behind military base fences. Above are only my opinions, your milage may vary. We need a law that states whenever someone tries to deny us our rights of assembly, association, free speech, etc., they must provide the basis of their claim to us in writeing, signed, identifing their full name, date, time, the contact information for thier registered agent in the state, and proof of a (say 10 million dollar) bound which will be forfeited and given to us if they in any way have miss-informed us or denied us our rights. This must include not only private firms that in any way dela with any subset of the public, but police, fire and rescue, FBI, etc. They can have preprinted forms so it will not be a hardship, they just better be right if they ever interfere with individual rights. Pointing to a sign on the wall, or just making a verbal claim that denies rights should not be tolerated and those officials and employees who do so should pay consequences when this happens. No form like mentioned above, that individual is in hot water, a form is given but is baseless, the organization forfeits the bound amount in full to each and every individual for each and every instance of infraction and the exexcutives are held responsible in court for further civil and legal proceedings "Our liberty we prize, and our rights we will maintain!"

You right about people like that. I too was on a sidewalk takeing photos of a foundton of a person home. the foundton was almost on the sidewalk and the lady of the house with her daughter came out and demaned what I was doing. I told her I was takeing photos of her lovely foundton and I was on the sidewalk; never step on her land. She was still mad at me. I just walked away. A big car then drive up but no one talked to me out of the car. But you right ake me wonder about people I had some encounters lol Oh the shot is wonderful

The vanishing point is behind you. Suspicion is obnoxious. It even leads to canned stories reported in court filings. The old saying is lies, pernicious nonsense and suspicion. I never got into commercial aviation because Crandall opposed me. In an open way like a road race course not like a maze. I could make my own decisions to stay away. and I did. I only approached executive aviation and the non-skeds.

I see his connection, ie. - "homeland security", American Airline Center, transportation surveillance, and camera. Well, next time wear a turban and he won't say a thing.
