Description

Gator make mounds to put the eggs in and watch over it. This one the eggs is gone but I saw this log in the water then I notes the eyes. That about all you may see. I got a photo of the mother with just her noise and eyes out the water. The rangers had put up a orange feance to protect the gator and the people too. The orange feance is down now. I try for two and halve hours to scan the film where the other shot of the gator is. Haveing touble but i get it. no time now. I took that shot a month ago and I took these two on 10-30-2007. I all most got out the truck here to get a close up shot of the mound but I saw the log and keep looking at it and I then saw it was a gator looking at me. So I back the truck up and telephoto the mound. I do not know who to contact for the fate of the eggs or the babies gators thanks for looking and comments

I didn't know about the mounds! I guess it's like thinking food comes from the grocery store - I didn't think about how gators "got there." That makes sense. They're reptiles, and they have to keep their eggs somewhere! Thank you for the information, and the great pictures to illustrate.

Great shot Jock. If the nest still had eggs you probably would have been somethings lunch.

I have seen gators both in Texas and Florida, and seen their slides on the banks, but I have never had the luck to see a nest - active or old. This is incredible. I imagine it was exciting to have taken these shots.

Nice shot, it's fascinating to see the egg mound, even if there aren't any eggs there, now. Neat set of pictures!

a healthy person can out run a gatot no problem they are only real fast for first 10 feet or so. but if your by the water and and faceing the gator they are faster frontwards then you are back wards. if your into takeing shots around swamps and gators then mount your camera on top of pump action 12 gage with slugs and buck shot they do obay those most times. nice shot of log with eyes!!!
