Description

This is a quick-skirmish post since my internet time is both limited and sporadic. It is a shot of an ignored part of Prague's Church of Saint Nicholas. The Church of Saint Nicholas is one of the more beautiful cathedrals in the city of Prague. But behind its frescoes and extravagant gold leaf, its alcoves and altars there are quiet (and old) steps leading to the upper levels of the church. The ascending spiral is easily ignored, but a sense of age pervades the simple, undecorated space...and the gloomy, gray light of Prague in winter casts a cold glow through the windows. I was fascinated by this spiral staircase, and the age-worn steps and so here is an offering of yet another facet of my brief return to Prague. When I return to Dortmund, I'll actually catch up on the uploads I've missed from everyone else here, and as always, I hope that you enjoy this image. As always, thank you for your viewing and comments, and I look forward to being back "home" in the quieter confines of Dortmund, though I don't exactly wish to leave Prague behind...but ah...Prague isn't a city that you leave...you simply go away for a while....

Those steps look well-used... I wonder if there are ghosts still roaming up and down those stairs... Great capture with the light shining through that window.

I'm with Tara, Chip, this is simply superb!! The light, the sense of mystery, of ancient times, absolutely wonderful!! Whatever you're doing there in Prague, it's heightened your senses or something, your fotos from there are stunning!!

I agree this is a brilliant shot. The compo, the light and contrast are all perfect. Very inviting image, I'd like to climb these stairs to see what's up there. And I think you caught the silence there, too. This is the most difficult and genius part of it. Excellent work, my friend.
