Description
Here is a photo I shot a while back while visiting Cumberland Island. I was able to snap off a shot of a mother turkey and her young as they made a dash for the undergrowth. Not a stellar capture by any means, but I figured I'd post it in honor or the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
Since Cumberland Island is protected state land and a nature preserve, at least these turkey's won't find themselves as the main course for a holiday meal. :')
Thanks for stopping by!

Hey, five gobbles on this candid snapshot, Kort! This is what could easily be described as a turkey shoot. Nice November effect displayed here, with the mother turkey supervising her little urchins.

Interesting aside--the domestic turkey was not bred from the wild turkey in the US, but exported out of Mexico, where the Aztecs had domesticated it, to the Mediterranean and then imported back into the US.

It's great! Adorable family shot!

Beautiful shot. What a life most wild turkeys have to live - always looking out for hunters. Great capture.

I believe this is the bird Benjamin Franklin thought of having as the national bird instead of the bald eagle, or is that just an urban legend? In any case this is an adorable composition!

nice family shot!

Great shot, and the fact that you got here AND her chicks, makes this a stellar shot! They seem to have made a come-back here the western part of NY, we see them and hear them quite often. I've even seen them in town! But it's hard to get a good shot of them. They are wary critters!
