Description

Kilauea Iki had erupted in 1959 sending lava to the air to heights of about 1,900 ft. It was like a red/orange sunset all over with a roar of a freight train. The lake was large filled with red lava. It was warm from the distance where I'm taking this picture from. It was beautiful and yet scary at that time. I would know. I was there at that time. Well here I am again and taking a hike into the crater with Lady Carrie. Aloha and thank you for viewing

Wow! Interesting landscape, the green area contrasts with the rocky foreground. Sounds like 1959 was a very scary time!

Amazing shot! You're right to be nervous. Tread softly and let Pele' sleep bra. Watch your footing and check next steps with walking stick. You know the drill. Great pics. Wish I was there. :)

Excellent picture. Looks like the foliage is making its way back, I am amazed anything would grow in lava stone. Be careful! Todd

There is nothing more exciting to me than seeing the inside of the earth - especially when I don't have to go inside to see it. This is great!

Mother Earth, always in a state of flux, erupts again. Terrific textures and contrast in this capture of what looks like a mountain of tar against the blue sky.

A rich, and highly evocative image! I love the blend of moods that is emitted from this...... can be so dangerous, yet so tranquil when dormant. That sense of "living on the edge" I find to be intriguing and mystifying. Your capture of detail and texture is absolutely phenomenal! And what a sky! Bravo! This is an amazing composition!
