I can tell you exactly how I got that stark, white background on this one. That's what the sky looks like here at this time of year. I just pointed my camera up, and pushed the button. I imagine it's hard to believe if you've never spent a winter in a rainy climate, but the sky is often totally white and featureless like this. There's no sense in waiting for better light, or for the cloud to pass. This is just how it is. (Maybe that's why I like high-key work so much - it looks perfectly normal to me!) :)

But it makes such a great photo! Love the colors. When our sky is blue this time of year, it usually means it is really, really cold. When it's overcast, we may get some rain. ;o)

We get that sky here in the dead of winter. And back home on the Gulf we got it "whenever" as the tropical rainy climate brought in cloud cover and sun many times in one day without warning.
